Alternative to Capitalism

The world as it is now, revolves around money. Or at least it seems to, considering that our communities today (and perhaps in the past years) are highly capitalistic with profit and competition as the center of it all. But capitalism wasn’t too bad a thing back in its early conception, it was borne out of the people’s need for individual liberties. Liberties like economic and political individualities, they weren’t afforded due to the class system, especially in the West.
But the changes of capitalism in modern times can be felt by every single one of us. Whether it’s good or bad depends on which side of the coin you are. As so evidently seen by numerous statistics, the gap between the world’s richest and poorest has been exacerbated by capitalism and the free market. Throughout the course of capitalism, a few alternatives have been explored to mitigate the growing inequality.

"The achievement of socialism requires the solution of some extremely difficult socio-political problems: how is it possible, in view of the far-reaching centralization of political and economic power, to prevent bureaucracy from becoming all-powerful and overweening?"

-Albert Einstein-

Socialism

"In genuine democracy, the leader is a servant and no more. The leader is a servant and no more! Unfortunately, there are lots of people in the world who live for the day when they will no longer be servants, but masters."

-Vaclav Havel-

Degrowth

“Degrowth is not the same as recession. It is a planned reduction of energy and resource use designed to bring the economy back into balance with the living world in a way that reduces inequality and improves human well-being.”

-Giorgos Kallis-

Evolved

Capitalism

"Evolved capitalism needs to be a dynamic blend of the market, the state, and the community—creating a new form of economic and social organization that can address the challenges of the 21st century."

-Jeremy Rifkin-
