When I look at plight of this world, I am reminded of why democracy matters in the world today. Democracy is a way of life & political system, which is absolutely relevant - it means freedom, equality and the power of the people. With the rise of populism and authoritarianism, the importance of democratic values has never been so obvious. Look at the United States, with all the problems of polarization and political tensions, American democracy is resilient, even if we still have disputes about the electoral process. The US democracy has held together, in light of its institutions and citizens. For example, America had a peaceful transferring of power in 2020 despite political and economic challenges, showing a commitment to democratic ideals, as is does in 2024, we see the spirit of democracy thriving in America, even ater the events of Pennsylvania, with the assassination attempt of presidential candidate Donald trump. Democracy allows both parties to openly express their concerns, promises, as well as criticisms towards each other. Similarly, consider India. India is the world's largest democracy population – wise , and in the post-1947 era it is thriving in the face of incredible diversity. It has used its democracy to create a truly remarkable story on the socio-economic development front and also in technological innovation, as we have seen with the COVID-19 pandemic. The successes dynamic democracy exhibits is a balance of individual freedom and collective responsibility. Given global governance issues such as climate change and income inequality, democracy is the place where we can act collectively and have diverse voices to try and solve the modern world problems and make a more just and equitable world. I think democracy, in all its flaws, is the heart of the matter when it comes to trying to make the world a better place with all the complex challenges we face. there are many countries and major institutions who have recently face or will face in the future with a democratic such as south Africa, Russia any many more.
